MLERF PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

 2009-2010

It is an honor and privilege to be the 58th President of the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc. (MLERFI). I take great pride in following many great leaders before me and lead the way for many more to follow.

I would like to thank the Lions, Lioness, and Leos who have supported me through the years. A special thanks to my home club, Ashburnham Lions, and to my wife and children. Thank you all so much.

Thanks to all the hospitals and doctors that the directors and I have called on numerous times. Without any hesitation all requests were answered within a day or two to help with many debilitating eye problems.

This year directors will be visiting every club in the multiple and bringing information of new discoveries by the hospitals and medical researchers. This is only accomplished with the many fundraisers and contributions made by all the generosity of the Multiple 33.

August will bring our annual installation and awards banquet. This year is special because we will celebrate the first club total donations of $500,000.00 along with another clubs $400,000.00, 300,000.00 and
200,000.00 donation. No matter what level your clubs are at you should all be proud of your efforts. Please continue your efforts – the hospitals need us.

This year I would like to see more clubs take advantage of going to visit the hospitals. The studies of eye diseases, the new labs and childrens' eye examination rooms are just a small part of many things your donations have accomplished. Please contact either myself or a director to help arrange a visit to one of these great facilities.

This year I’m asking that each club give $250.00 more than last year. This will put us back over the million dollar mark. Full participation is the only way this is possible so please give it your best effort.

My biggest challenge is for each club to join PENNIES FOR SIGHT and raise “A-TON of money for a Ton of Fun” event. There will be a prize awarded to the club raising the most weight during the year. Finally, at the
state convention I would like all the clubs to bring lots of pennies so we can weigh our display “tons of money for the hospitals.”

We will then put all the pennies into a large container and the person who guesses the closest number of pennies will receive a prize as well as closest to guess the weight. So let’s all pledge to “A-Ton Of Money for a Ton of Fun.”

Good luck

Yours in Lionism,
Kevin A. Lashua, PDG 33-A
